Atama Plus Corporation has started offering “Japanese Language” courses for elementary and middle school students through its AI-based learning system, atama+. With this addition, atama+ now supports the three major subjects for elementary students and five major subjects for middle school students.

atama+ utilizes cutting-edge technology to provide a unique “personalized curriculum” tailored to each student. As of March 2024, it is provided in over 4,000 classrooms in tutoring schools and preparatory schools nationwide.

Recently, university entrance exams have increasingly required the ability to read multiple texts and process information, necessitating early development of complex skills such as vocabulary, grammar, and logic in elementary and middle school students. However, many students have expressed a reluctance toward studying Japanese, with common complaints including difficulties with unfamiliar long reading passages in entrance exams and mock tests, resistance to reading long texts in general, and a feeling that studying Japanese does not lead to improvement.

In response to such feedback, the atama+ Japanese language courses for elementary and middle school students have been developed under the concept that “Japanese is not about talent! Even those who struggle with reading can learn to solve Japanese language problems.” The materials are structured to first focus on vocabulary such as idioms and set phrases before tackling grammar and long reading comprehension, allowing students to gradually challenge longer and more complex problems while feeling a sense of achievement.
