Rakuten Group’s Viber Media S.a.r.l. has introduced a new feature called “AI Chat Summary” for its messaging app “Rakuten Viber” on smartphones. This feature utilizes OpenAI’s generative AI technology to summarize unread messages in group chats.

“Rakuten Viber” is a messaging app that allows everyone to freely connect with people around the world in the best possible way. Users can engage in one-on-one messages, group chats, calls, video calls, and follow “Public Chats” from their favorite brands and celebrities.

The new “AI Chat Summary” feature extracts key points from unread messages in group chats and instantly creates a bullet-point summary. This function eliminates the need to go back through accumulated unread messages, thereby minimizing the time and effort spent on messaging, and is expected to aid in decision-making and enhance productivity. Users can generate a summary by opening a group chat with unread messages and tapping the “Get Summary” button displayed in the chat. This feature is capable of summarizing between a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 100 unread messages.
